Qiandeng Town is truly a place blessed with great prosperity, also reputed as “golden Qiandeng”. It is not only the birthplace of the patriotic scholar Gu Yanwu (1613-1682) but also the hometown of Gu Jian (at around 1368), the founder of Kunqu Opera. Here you can appreciate the picturesque water town scenery and discover breathtaking antiquities such as the flagstone alleyway, ancient residential houses and Qinfeng Tower, whilst learning about the ancient Liangzhu culture and the long history of opera and religion.
