Jinxi Ancient Town (4A tourist attraction)

Jinxi Town is bordered by Dianshan Lake to the east, Chenghu Lake to the west, Qingpu District’s Jinze Town of Shanghai to the south, and Wuzhong District’s Luzhi Town of Suzhou and Kunshan’s Zhangpu Town to the north. It is regarded as the “southern gateway of Jiangsu Province and is renowned as the Hometown of China’s Folk Museums.

“Jin”and “Xi” means tapestry and waterway respectively. The town got its name from its poetic scenery where a river flows along the town on whose bank the flowers blossom and the water glitters with a rich tapestry of colors at sunrise and sunset. Jinxi witnessed Emperor Xiaozong’s (Southern Song Dynasty1127-1194) ardent love to his late concubine; it also experienced a period of prosperity as evidenced by an array of old kilns. The moonlight shining on lotus flowers at the porch of riverside houses and thousand-year-history folk songs by fishermen all depict the charm of this ancient town.
