Kunshan Library


Kunshan Library has a long history dating back to 1918. Its new building was inaugurated in 2005 and comprises five above-ground floors and one underground level. The library occupies an area of 12,000 m2 and has a gross floor area of 18,800 m2. It features a collection of more than one million books, provides 900-plus readers’ seats, and offers access to over 1,600 newspapers and periodicals.

The library consists of a main service desk (for library card consultation), a dedicated children’s area, a newspaper and periodical reading room, a self-service circulation room, a comprehensive circulation room, a reference reading room, a multi-functional hall, a reading room for the visually impaired, an academic lecture hall, a Siku Quanshu hall, and a local literature room.

Beyond its role as a repository for books and information, the library also serves as a vital hub for public education, cultural leisure, academic research, and artistic exchange. It stands as a cultural landmark and embodies the spirit of public welfare in Kunshan.

Opening hours: 9:00-20:30 every day, including public holidays, except Mondays whereby the library closes at and after 12:00 pm
